Material names are a starting point. Construction, finish, instructions, lubricant compatibility, cleaning, drying, and storage also matter.
Read the disclosed material
Product pages should identify the manufacturer-disclosed contact material and distinguish it from internal structures, coatings, handles, or attachments when relevant. We do not turn vague phrases into precise material claims.
Common nonporous materials
Silicone, borosilicate glass, stainless steel, and certain hard plastics are commonly used in quality products. Their feel, weight, flexibility, temperature response, fragility, and cleaning instructions differ. Follow the instructions for the exact product.
Porous and soft-touch materials
Some elastomers and soft-touch blends can be porous or have undisclosed formulations. They may require extra care, may retain odor, and may not be suitable for sharing without a compatible barrier. The product page should state what the manufacturer discloses and what remains unknown.
Lubricant compatibility
Water-based lubricant is the broadest compatibility starting point. Silicone lubricant can damage some silicone products, and oil can damage some barriers and materials. Check the instructions for the toy, lubricant, and any barrier before combining them. A small compatibility test can help when the manufacturer recommends it.
Cleaning and drying
Clean before first use and after each use according to the manufacturer instructions. Waterproof and splash-resistant do not mean the same thing. Disconnect power where required, avoid submerging products that are not rated for it, rinse away cleaner, and let the product dry fully before storage.
Storage and inspection
Store clean, dry products away from extreme heat, direct sunlight, dust, and incompatible materials. Keep separate products from touching when the manufacturer recommends it. Inspect for cracks, tears, swelling, discoloration, exposed components, persistent odor, or other damage before use.
Sharing and moving between body areas
Use a compatible barrier and replace it between partners or body areas when appropriate. Clean according to manufacturer instructions. Do not share a product that cannot be safely cleaned for the intended use.
